Over the last few months, our reliance on digital forms of communication has become undeniable. Although this was, for many, a forced shift and face to face interactions are now likely to be valued far more than we before realised, there are still some things we can take forward from this period and incorporate into the way we work and communicate and present our businesses in the future.
For some not previously using digital forms of Marketing and communication extensively, the strict lockdown across the UK has highlighted the benefit of giving a little more focus on your online presence.
Whilst, as an Independent Insurance Broker, your focus will always be on providing your customer with the very best service and more often than not giving a personalised and one to one approach, that’s not to say face to face may always be the only way to do this. We have put together a few of what we believe to be the best and easiest to implement key takeaways from this time.
The chances are, you will already have at least one business page on a social media platform. If not, it’s a great time to get one in place, many people look to social media for research when thinking about a new business for the first time.
Now’s also a great time to check all information about your brokerage is up to date across all mediums, your website, social profiles and Google Business Page.
Building a relationship with your customers, even if that is in a predominantly digital capacity, through liking, sharing and commenting back and forth across social media will keep you and your business current in your customer’s minds.
Regular interaction will boost you from someone they simply contact when they are due a renewal or need a mid-term adjustment.
Whilst you don’t need to post updates, send newsletters or add content to your website daily, it’s a good idea to get into a routine of doing so regularly. A little time spent planning could go a long way. Whatsmore, considered and concise updates will show your expertise to both your current customers and prospects alike.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t use your social media to share your interests and thoughts, after all, a little personality will make you both more relatable and approachable - but it’s best to steer clear of anything too controversial!
Of course, these may not always be appropriate, especially when a building or object needs to be viewed, but it’s worth keeping in mind, for some people it may be easier to have more digital meetings.
As nice as it is to get to know someone face to face, sometimes a busy schedule makes these much harder to organise and fit in, yet digital forms of communication allow you to have a meeting anytime and in almost any location!
Whilst the digital world may not be everyone’s favourite place and face to face interaction may be your preferred method, it’s still a great idea to have some things in place to ensure you keep yourself and your business in both the public eye and your customers’ minds.

The site map will be an aid to navigation around our various websites. Of course, these sites have just undergone a major structural update and things are still changing.
So, it’s a bit like when a supermarket periodically shifts things around, either, just for the hell of it, or, because they have decided to squeeze in a click & collect point, where the bread used to be.
As stuff relocates, consequently, leaving the signs above the ends of the aisles as they were before, could become confusing.
Our current situation here is very similar.
Mind you, whether before or after the reorganisation, you can never find the Tahini paste. You always have to ask.
